december Exhibit
Five15Arts presents INTERBEING, a solo exhibit by collective member Yunie LeNoue. Using schools of fish as her subject, LeNoue explores themes of human consciousness and individuality in linocut prints and mixed-media paintings on Korean Hanji paper.
LeNoue is influenced by Buddhism, the fishes’ “freedom of movement in the water represents the attainment of nirvana, where beings enjoy complete liberty and relief from all suffering.” But she also uses the multitudes of fish to question the notion of individuality within “mass synchronized swirls and sudden crowding rushes here and there. Languid, purposeful, panicked, or aggressive, we move unconscious of the truth of our interbeing.”
Yunie LeNoue’s fascinating and detailed work is teeming with colored threads, bits of reflective materials, and calming blues that invite the viewer into her world to share her vision. Related works have been the subject of recent solo shows at the Shemer Art Center and the Olney Gallery in Phoenix.
